Looking at fairly typical summer-time weather across much of Arizona. Temperatures will moderate a bit in the coming days as high-pressure overhead drifts more towards the Four Corners. In addition to some minor cooling, the flow will also turn more from the east and eventually southeast. This will advect deeper monsoon moisture into the region for an increasing chance for widespread convection.
Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to ramp up on Sunday, mainly over the higher terrain, but storms could drift westward into the lower deserts. As moisture and instability increase on Monday and Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage and intensity. Enhanced by an Easterly wave pushing through the area later in the week.
Storms during the second half of the week could approach severe levels with an elevated risk for flash flooding as the monsoon flow remains active through next weekend and beyond. Daytime highs will top out in the 100s through the period, while overnight lows generally cool to the 80s. Daytime temperatures may come down a bit by the end of the week courtesy of the increase in cloud cover and humidity. If you have outdoor activities planned through next weekend, be prepared for the potential of strong thunderstorms producing strong & damaging winds, frequent lightning, large hail, and flash flooding rains. |
